International College of Management, Sydney - Semester or Year Abroad

Overview

In association with Macquarie University (MQ), currently ranked in the top 100 Universities in the world (The Times Higher Education Supplement, UK – 2005), International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS) offers study abroad programs specializing in Business, Tourism, Event Management, Retail Services Management, Property Services Management, and Hospitality Management.

The MQ study Abroad Program at ICMS offers:
  • Full academic credit transfer to your home university
  • U.S. grading scale
  • Choice of over 80 subjects
  • Three intakes per year in Spring, Summer, and Fall
  • Quality facilities, including guaranteed residential living in one of Sydney’s leading beachside locations

Location

ICMS is located in a beautiful heritage-listed, sandstone building overlooking Manly Beach. It would be hard to find a college in a more spectacular position. To the north, there are views of the Pacific Ocean stretching to the New South Wales Central Coast. Southwards, the College has sweeping views of Sydney Harbor, which many consider to be the most beautiful in the world.

The campus is a five-minute walk to Manly Beach and shopping precinct with its cafes, restaurants, and shopping. ICMS is also close enough to downtown Sydney – 15 minutes by fast ferry – for visits to art galleries, museums, the historic Rocks area, the best city shops, and even the Sydney Opera House and Harbor Bridge.

Extracurricular Activities

At ICMS, we don’t expect you to spend your entire semester with your head buried in a book! The College’s rich social and sporting life is there to be enjoyed. Activities include basketball, volleyball, tennis, swimming, and soccer.

You can also take advantage of weekend trips to the snow fields, Central Coast, and Blue Mountains. For an adrenalin rush, you can even try indoor rock climbing, sky diving, white water rafting, sailing, fishing, surfing, scuba diving, and horse riding – to name a few.

The Student Club at ICMS holds themed events on campus often. These events include talent shows, karaoke, Asian food festivals, and Brazilian Carnival nights. For the more classically minded, there are opportunities to attend concerts and plays in Sydney theatres, open-air venues, and even the Sydney Opera House.

Academic Highlights

ICMS is highly regarded by industry professionals and has won many awards in the last decade. Most recently, ICMS was winner of the 2007 New South Wales Tourism Awards for Excellence in Education and the 2006 Premier's Export Award for Education. A cornerstone of the ICMS approach to education is that learning is enhanced when theory is combined with practical experience. Each course is built around real business experiences and developed in conjunction with top professionals to ensure its relevance and value.

ICMS also offers a chance to combine a semester of study with an internship experience through a 3-week rotating internship placement available before the start of each semester.

Study-Internship Program

The internship component available at ICMS is a unique 3 week opportunity to experience a variety of hospitality settings. Eligible students will have experience in the hospitality industry already as these placements are meant to provide exposure to a multitude of settings for those individuals who have already learned the basics of the industry. Participants will rotate through three different hotel settings: city, country, and beach-side. Participants will spend one week at each location shadowing the manager and various hotel positions. The aim of the rotations is to provide participants with insight into the nuances of each hotel region.
