OverviewAs a key member of the Australian Technology Network, a prestigious coalition of five leading Australian universities, the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) offers contemporary and innovative education in the center of Australia’s most exciting city, Sydney.
In 2008, UTS was rated top for Learning and Teaching by the Australian Government (Australian Commonwealth Government Learning and Teaching Performance Fund 2008). This means that UTS is one of only two Australian universities to be rated top for all teaching discipline areas.

This one-credit, online course is offered by the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities exclusively for students studying in Australia with AustraLearn. A network of creative inner city villages is a short walk away. An underground walkway connects UTS to Sydney’s Central Railway station providing students with direct access to the city’s beaches and outer suburbs through Sydney’s public transport network. Extracurricular ActivitiesUTS students have Sydney at their doorstep. On campus, UTS students can join more than 90 cultural, sporting, and social clubs and societies, ranging from Bollywood to Ultimate Frisbee! This includes study support, prayer room facilities, student and career counseling, health and housing services, sporting facilities, a peer support network, and a student tandem program where you can meet Australian and other international students on campus.

- The University library with over 650,000 books, journals and audiovisual items, plus an International Cultural and News Center (ICNC).
- Over 800 computers for student use as well as specialized faculty laboratories, with 24-hour access to computers on the City campus. Free wireless internet access is available to all enrolled students on both the City and Kuring-gai campuses.

HousingThe UTS Housing Services offer pre-arranged housing in shared apartments that are furnished and self-catered. If students wish, they can also choose independently organized accommodation arranged upon arrival.OrientationUTS organizes a comprehensive International Student Orientation Program (ISOP) for new students before each semester. This program is designed to familiarize new students with the university's services and facilities and to prepare students for the challenges and opportunities of living and studying in central Sydney.
The orientation week is supported by UTS staff and our “Peer Network”, who are a large group of experienced UTS students who volunteer to make sure that new international students can get the most out of their UTS experience.
ISOP includes a series of campus tours, faculty welcomes, and academic counseling sessions, social activities on and around the campus and optional short trips and adventure programs. Fees include all pre-trip services such as: orientation materials, visa-processing service (excluding the visa fee), housing placements, personal advising, subject selections, liaise with your home university, credit transfer assistance, and financial aid services. As a study abroad student, you will be required to enroll as a full time student. Your semester is equivalent to 12-16 U.S. credits. Additional tuition and/or fees may apply in some subject areas not limited to the following: science, engineering, fine arts, and journalism. Students who undertake subjects where the university requires additional fees will be billed by the host university. Several universities have included the Sports and Rec. membership. Caroline graduated from Colorado State University with a B.A. in Public Relations with a minor in Business. Through her study abroad travels she studied at Bond University on the Gold Coast of Australia. While abroad her travels included the east coast of Australia, as well as a roadtrip around the South Island of New Zealand.
Advice From The Coordinator: UTS is a great university option for students looking for an urban study abroad experience. The university is surrounded by a great variety of shops, museums, cafes, restaurants, and nightlife. Due to the large student population in the area, the options for those on a budget are plentiful! Students also looking for a multicultural city will be happy to know that Chinatown is a short walk away. |
