GlobaLinks Learning Abroad, formerly known as AustraLearn, offers semester and year abroad programs at CQUniversity. CQUniversity is one of the most engaged and supportive universities in Australia and prides itself on a commitment to student satisfaction and academic success. Enrollment at the CQUniversity main  campus in Rockhampton offers students the opportunity to experience one of the world’s most exciting and geographically unique locations. The Rockhampton campus is situated in a natural bushland setting with acres of parks and tropical gardens, over 30 academic buildings, on-campus accommodation, a bookstore, and sporting complex.

Location

Located on the Tropic of Capricorn, the city of Rockhampton experiences warm to hot summers and very mild winters. This region has some of the most beautiful coastlines and landscapes in Australia, with easy access to the Great Barrier Reef and the Australian outback. A study experience in this region offers opportunities to participate in genuine Australian experiences and to enjoy the varied landscape, history, people, and culture.

Academic Highlights

Studying at CQUniversity is the opportunity to combine adventure with a strong academic program.  Study Abroad students can create a program which will suit specific interests and or academic requirements by choosing subjects from across a number of discipline areas or may focus on one area of specialization. Subjects are available in a broad range of fields including environmental science, sport and exercise science, indigenous studies, psychology, nursing, history, geography, business, information technology, teacher education, engineering, pathology and nutrition.

Students are also welcomed officially by the city council, and taken on a tour of the local area. In addition, students are encouraged to take part in all the fun and frolics of ‘O’ Week (Orientation Week) for all Australian and International students.

Get Involved Abroad

Extracurricular Activities

Campus facilities include a swimming pool and gym, playing fields, baseball diamond, tennis and basketball courts to name a few. Perhaps you may like to try something new such as "rugby," "netball," or "cricket". CQUniversity teams compete in various sports.

The CQUniversity International Office offers a free package of adventure activities for all international students to help them get to know the region and make the most of their semester, including a welcome ceremony, a visit to the dreamtime center, the rodeo competition, local festivals and more.

Other options include scuba diving, surfing, adventure caving, horseback riding, spending the night under the stars, or just lazing by the beach. CQUniversity international office is happy to assist with planning any activities students wish to experience during their stay.

If you're after "one on one" meetings with kangaroos, wallabies, koalas and other Australian wildlife in the region, you can simply take a walk around the CQUni campus in the morning or at sunset or, you can head to the wonderful (and free!) Rockhampton Zoo or a nearby wildlife park, to get up close and feed the animals.

Community Involvement

While abroad, we recommend getting involved in your local community. It's an awesome way to meet locals, experience the true Australian culture, and create long lasting memories. From volunteering to festival-going, we challenge you to make the most of your international experience... See a sample of community involvement opportunities available in Rockhampton or discover your own upon arrival!

You'll get a taste of how enriching community involvement can be during your first few days in Australia on the GlobaLinks Learning Abroad Bridging Cultures Program. The program includes one day of pre-arranged volunteering with the local community. You'll interact directly with locals while giving back to and sharing your own culture with the community that first welcomes you to Australia. Plus, you can continue your volunteer efforts later in the semester by signing up for the GlobaLinks Learning Abroad Conservation Volunteer Weekend.

Enhance Your Experience

Global Identity Course

While studying at CQUniversity, you can maximize your study abroad experience by enrolling in the Global Identity course (EdPA 3103 Connecting Your International Experience to Your Future). The course will help you articulate the value of your experience to future employers, demonstrate your intercultural development and skills, and understand intercultural interactions.

This one-credit, online course is offered by the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities exclusively for students studying with GlobaLinks Learning Abroad. LEARN MORE>

Global Citizens Development Modules

The Global Citizen Development modules are online learning components designed to help you explore your study abroad destination and experience at a whole new level. These modules are not mandatory, however we strongly encourage your participation as they will introduce you to the opportunities and challenges you may encounter when participating in a study abroad program, as well as expose you to cultural insights and knowledge about your host country to help make your program abroad even more successful and fulfilling. Through the 3 modules, you will refine your skills in cross-cultural observation, adaptation, and communication.
