Victoria University of Wellington, named in honor of Queen Victoria, was founded in 1899, making it one of the oldest universities in New Zealand. Victoria University is built on a tradition of

one of New Zealand’s leading research institutions.
LOCATION
Victoria University is an integral part of New Zealand’s capital city with campuses strategically located in the heart of Wellington and a number of unique relationships within the government, business, and arts communities. Victoria has a student population of around 21,000 students and welcomes over 4,000 new students every year. International students make up about 15 percent of the student community and come from over 75 different countries. Wellington’s wealth of research institutions in such a concentrated area makes the city uniquely attractive for a wide range of students. The close proximity of the country’s public records, archives, and national collection libraries – the National Library National Archives and the Parliamentary Library – within a block of each other is unique in Australasia.
ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHTS
Victoria University is comprised of seven teaching faculties: Architecture & Design, Commerce & Administration, Education, Engineering, Humanities & Social Sciences, Law, and Science. The University has 15 undergraduate degree programs and a wide range of postgraduate programmes to suit most learning needs – from one-year Honours and Diploma coursework programmes, many of which include a research paper, to more advanced research opportunities in our many Master’s and PhD degrees. The Faculty of Architecture & Design’s facilities are among the best in Australasia – all in a radically remodelled former cargo building which is an award-winning landmark. Major items of equipment include 3-D Digital Printer, Digital Laser Cutter, a wind tunnel, and other environmental simulation equipment. The Faculty of Commerce and Administration is superbly positioned to make the most of the many advantages of being close to the center of a thriving capital city. Wellington is the administrative center of New Zealand and many businesses have their head offices in the city.

Excellent links are in place with many of the corporate leaders, financial institutions, and government agencies in the city to develop mutually beneficial partnerships. In 2010, Victoria's strength in Accounting and Business was recognized with AASCB accreditation for both degree programs, placing it in the top 5% of business schools worldwide. In 2008, Humanities and Social Sciences were ranked in the Top 100 in the world by the THES world rankings. As Victoria’s largest faculty, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences offers a wide range of study areas, including the only degree in criminology in New Zealand. The New Zealand School of Music (NZSM) has been established by combining Victoria University of Wellington and Massey University’s strengths in their Conservatorium of Music and School of Music to offer students opportunities for comprehensive study unique in New Zealand. The NZSM takes a holistic approach to music, placing equal value on composition, musicology and performance.
