Massey University - Auckland - Semester or Year Abroad

Overview

The Massey University Albany campus located on the North Shore of Auckland was established more than 15 years ago. The campus is New Zealand’s most modern campus with Spanish-architectural styled buildings, state-of-the-art facilities, free parking and a unique atmosphere highly conductive to study.

Located in New Zealand’s largest city of 1,300,000, Massey’s Innovative Campus has approximately 7,000 students. This fast growing campus has built strong business and community links to allow students to undertake postgraduate work and research with national companies and large providers of community services. Key partnerships include the e-Center, which fosters and incubates company start-ups, and the Smales Farm Technology Park.

Location

The Massey Albany campus is part of the North Shore of Auckland and is just a 20 minute drive from the city center. The North Shore city region covers 120km of coastline and includes more than 30 sandy swimming beaches. Part of the North Shore's appeal is that it is just a short drive from the city lights and downtown lifestyle of central Auckland, yet it has a real community feel and beachside character. North Shore city is served by motorway links to Auckland and the International Airport as well as to major rail and ferry terminals. City bus services are efficient, well developed, and relatively inexpensive.

Auckland is an international city with a population of over one million people. It is built around a stunning harbour with a bridge connecting the North Shore to the city center. Auckland is New Zealand's largest urban area with a diverse, multicultural population and world-class features and facilities.

Community Involvement

While abroad, we recommend getting involved in your local community. It's an awesome way to meet locals, experience the true New Zealand culture, and create long lasting memories. From volunteering to festival-going, we challenge you to make the most of your international experience... See a sample of community involvement opportunities available in Auckland or discover your own upon arrival!

You'll get a taste of how enriching community involvement can be during your first few days in New Zealand on AustraLearn's Culture and Adventure Program. The program includes one day of pre-arranged volunteering with the local community. You'll interact directly with locals while giving back to and sharing your own culture with the community that first welcomes you to New Zealand. Plus, you can continue your volunteer efforts later in the semester by signing up for AustraLearn's Conservation Volunteer Weekend.

A word from our alumni
"The landscape of Massey was wonderful! My hostel overlooked a large, grass oval which we considered "ours." At midnight we'd play games of rugby and netball, and during the day we'd lay out in the sun and do homework. It was perfect! Plus, the Oval's hill was just the right size for sliding down on a rainy day."
