GlobaLinks Learning Abroad, formerly known as AustraLearn, offers semester and year abroad programs at Bond University. Bond University’s Study Abroad program gives you the opportunity to study for a semester at Australia’s leading independent university, located in the heart of Queensland’s favorite holiday destination.
With the lowest staff to student ratio of any university in Australia, you’ll thrive in Bond’s small classes where our internationally renowned academics will know you by name. You’ll have a choice of more than 3000 subjects, available through the Faculties of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences, Health Sciences and Medicine, and Business, Technology and Sustainable Development. Your studies at Bond can be credited towards your current degree (subject to approval from your home institution) and Bond's January, May and September semester start dates align with the Northern Hemisphere school schedule, ensuring minimum disruption to your study timetable.

Bond is located on the famous Gold Coast, where you’ll enjoy the best of both worlds: All the modern conveniences, entertainment, and excitement of city life, mixed with the leisure lifestyle of an internationally renowned beach resort destination. The Gold Coast is internationally famous for offering over 40 miles of uninterrupted golden surfing beaches and world heritage listed national parks. The campus is a five-minute walk to Varsity Lakes, offering a shopping precinct of cafes, restaurants, post office & boutique stores.
The Gold Coast also has a good transport system with convenient access to the domestic and international airports at Coolangatta and Brisbane, a modern rail link, and an interstate bus terminal. From the Gold Coast, you can easily travel to all parts of Queensland, Australia and the world, including internationally famous tourist resort areas such as the Great Barrier Reef, the Sunshine Coast, and Byron Bay.
Internship Details*Internship: Volunteer Work Placement Details
Bond University offers volunteer work placements for GlobaLinks Learning Abroad's students studying at Bond University interested in the following subject areas: Business Marketing, Communications/Public Relations, and Marketing in the Study Abroad Office. Students will conduct their volunteer work on campus and work directly with Bond University Faculty throughout the semester.
Along with the work placement, students will also enroll in three to four classes of their choice to maintain their full time student status. A cover letter describing the ideal work placement and a resume should be submitted along with GlobaLinks Learning Abroad's required application materials. The volunteer work placements are based on a separate acceptance process and students are evaluated by Bond University faculty.
There is one volunteer work placement position available in the January and September terms to Study Abroad Students. May term volunteer work placements will be considered. Academic HighlightsBond University Ratings

With its three, 14-week semesters each year, Bond is the only Australian university to offer a trimester system compatible with the USA academic year. This allows students to commence a study abroad program without disrupting study schedules at their home institution. Students may study abroad for up to two semesters at a time and may enroll in a range of subjects across all faculties. University ServicesAll Bond University campus facilities are within easy walking distance and include two coffee houses, eateries, a university bookshop, a wide variety of lecture theatres, numerous computer labs, case study and seminar rooms, two libraries, film and TV studios, a tavern, post office, access to a doctor and nurse on campus, and a 24-hour, on-site security service. All students have free access to the Internet and their own student email account. Bond also has trained counselors available year round to assist with academic and personal matters.
The University’s award winning $12 million dollar sports center features basketball, tennis, badminton, volleyball and squash courts; rugby, soccer, and hockey fields; a fully equipped gymnasium; and a heated Olympic size swimming pool. All students have full access to these facilities as well as free aerobics, box-ercise, circuit training, and yoga classes. Numerous Olympic athletes attend Bond University to make use of its first-class training facilities.
HousingAs a GlobaLinks Learning Abroad student you are guaranteed pre-arranged accommodation to fit your lifestyle. There are a variety of housing options available which you will apply for after acceptance. Read below for more specific options offered at this university:
Students who stay at Bond University can stay in pre-arranged, partially catered, on-campus residential halls or in pre-arranged apartment-style accommodation located within 10 minutes walk of the campus. Students can live in furnished, single or twin share bedrooms, depending on the housing option. Some students prefer to wait until they arrive to locate an apartment on their own and an accommodation provider can assist you in organizing this option with you. OrientationIn addition to the GlobaLinks Learning Abroad Bridging Cultures Program which is included in your program fees Bond offers a comprehensive orientation program beginning on the Monday prior to the start of classes. There are campus tours, Aussie barbeques, academic and study abroad information sessions, trivia, and theme nights, plus numerous other social activities that provide the perfect opportunity to meet others. There is also an Information Hub set up for new students where you can collect your ID cards, set up your student email account, receive enrollment assistance, and gain local information about banks, bus timetables, and cell phones.
In addition, Bond offers a regular program of group day trips throughout the semester and over the orientation weekend where you can participate in adventure activities such as scuba diving, rock climbing, learn-to-surf lessons, canyoning, horseback-riding, and hot air ballooning. They also arrange longer trips away to some of Australia’s top holiday spots like the Whitsunday Islands, Fraser Island, Ayers Rock, Sydney, and Byron Bay. Scholarships AvailableIn addition to the scholarships offered by GlobaLinks Learning Abroad, Bond University supports GlobaLinks Learning Abroad students with a number of scholarships reaching a total of $8,000 USD per year. Bond also offers two $400 AUD book awards per year.
Special Programs/ExcursionsBond University works closely with Student Flights, located on-campus, to give students the opportunity to participate in different adventures all over Australia and New Zealand. Most students' study abroad schedule allows them time to travel, sightsee, and experience the best the Gold Coast and surrounding areas have to offer.
Opportunities exist for students to participate in organized group trips on the weekends involving visits to the Australia Zoo, surfing tours up and down the east coast of Australia, island hopping in the Whitsundays, a visit to Byron Bay or Fraser Island, snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef, and possibly a visit to the Australian Outback and the Northern Territory!
Service Learning Projects
Students who engage in service-learning projects at Bond University, have an opportunity to translate theory into practice. Service-learning is about real-world, real-time experiences. It provides students with opportunities to learn through application, creating a product or service that benefits the larger community around them. Service-learning projects help to generate a sense of social responsibility that students will carry with them into their future professional career.
Bond University Scholars Program
High achievers, this is a specially designed study abroad program for you. GlobaLinks Learning Abroad and Bond University are offering a unique opportunity for students with a GPA of 3.0 and higher to join a special cohort of students who will experience specialized seminars and meetings to mingle with the local Australian Vice-Chancellor and Deans’ scholars. Successful students will receive a commemorative certificate acknowledging them as Bond Scholars which will be a valuable addition to their resumes. The networking opportunities provided during the semester will also be very beneficial socially and professionally. Get Involved AbroadExtracurricular Activities
With over 25 percent of Bond students living on campus, there are many opportunities for student initiated clubs and activities. Over 70 sporting, cultural, and entertainment based clubs and societies exist, including golf, netball, scuba diving, rugby, dance, rowing, ice hockey, drama, soccer, music, basketball, rock climbing, volleyball, debating, surfing, boxing, and photography.
In addition to these, a number of societies can be found which represent the many diversified cultures and nationalities on campus. Hundreds of further options also exist of campus, and students can arrange day or weekend trips for activities such as surfing, bush walking, mountain climbing, horse riding and camping, etc.
Community Involvement
While abroad, we recommend getting involved in your local community. It's an awesome way to meet locals, experience the true Australian culture, and create long lasting memories. From volunteering to festival-going, we challenge you to make the most of your international experience... You'll get a taste of how enriching community involvement can be during your first few days in Australia on the GlobaLinks Learning Abroad Bridging Cultures Program. The program includes one day of pre-arranged volunteering with the local community. You'll interact directly with locals while giving back to and sharing your own culture with the community that first welcomes you to Australia. Plus, you can continue your volunteer efforts later in the semester by signing up for the GlobaLinks Learning Abroad Conservation Volunteer Weekend.
   Enhance Your ExperienceGlobal Identity Course
While studying at Bond University, you can maximize your study abroad experience by enrolling in the Global Identity course (EdPA 3103 Connecting Your International Experience to Your Future). The course will help you articulate the value of your experience to future employers, demonstrate your intercultural development and skills, and understand intercultural interactions.
This one-credit, online course is offered by the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities exclusively for students studying with GlobaLinks Learning Abroad. LEARN MORE>
Global Citizens Development Modules
The Global Citizen Development modules are online learning components designed to help you explore your study abroad destination and experience at a whole new level. These modules are not mandatory, however we strongly encourage your participation as they will introduce you to the opportunities and challenges you may encounter when participating in a study abroad program, as well as expose you to cultural insights and knowledge about your host country to help make your program abroad even more successful and fulfilling. Through the 3 modules, you will refine your skills in cross-cultural observation, adaptation, and communication.

Fee IncludesProgram Fees: As a GlobaLinks Learning Abroad study abroad participant, you will be required to enroll as a full-time student; typically this is 3-4 classes, which is equivalent to 12-16 U.S. semester credit hours. Your program fees are in U.S. dollars and include the host university semester tuition for 4 subjects, university administrative fees, overseas health insurance, the Basic ISIC card, our renowned Bridging Cultures Program on-site orientation and the GlobaLinks Learning Abroad Personalized Support and Service. With GlobaLinks Learning Abroad you will receive Personalized Support and Service through our four point philosophy to manage your program:
1.) Personal Program Selection & Planning: Personal service & advising, academic planning and credit transfer assistance, program location, housing advice, financial assistance.
2.) Pre and Post Orientation and Preparation: Our MyLearn on-line enrollment information and process, comprehensive program information and departure webinar, immigration visa support and advice, airline ticket and group flight assistance, global citizen development modules.
3.) Cultural Integration: On-site Bridging Cultures Program, on-site resident director services and advising, academic support, guaranteed housing and placement, volunteer and community involvement opportunities.
4.) Reflection and Application of the Experience: Beyond Study Abroad Program, The EnCompass Alumni Program, program evaluation opportunity, resume building and review, alumni handbook and transcript services.
Housing Fees: The Housing Fees are approximates and are in addition to the Program Fees. GlobaLinks Learning Abroad offers you “Housing to Fit Your Lifestyle” and you are guaranteed a placement in a wide variety of quality housing options to accommodate your academic, personal and budgetary needs during your experience abroad. The housing fees listed indicate an approximate cost for the options available on that program which may represent apartments/flats, houses and/or dormitories/residential halls, living within the local community or on-campus with locals and other international students. Private single rooms are standard (although double rooms are available) and are fully furnished, including comfort amenities with access to internet and telephone. Students who choose to arrange their own accommodation upon arrival will be charged the Program Fee only, as they will be responsible for making payment directly to the housing provider once accommodation has been arranged. Additional Subject & Gym Membership Fees: Additional charges may apply for science, media, fine arts, or journalism subjects at some universities and students who undertake subjects where the university requires additional fees will be billed directly by the home university upon final enrolment. Applicants must have the required GPA and have completed at least the equivalent of one year of full-time study at the university/college level.
Students with a lower GPA than the requirement may be considered on a case by case basis. Please contact our office for more information.

Rebecca manages study abroad admissions and participant pre-trip services for students attending International College of Management Sydney (ICMS) University of the South Pacific, Bond University, and University of Newcastle. Rebecca graduated with a BA in International Relations and Spanish from St. Cloud State University, Minnesota in 2006. She studied abroad for a semester at La Universidad de Concepcion in Chile and was a participant in a short-term study abroad program to China. She has also traveled to Belgium, Mexico, Jamaica, Australia, Fiji, and the Canary Islands.
Advice From The Coordinator: Students have said that the Bond campus, right in the heart of the Gold Coast, is extremely clean and friendly, and hold a strong sense of family among its students. Many students really like the small size and diversity of activities available on campus. |
