James Cook University - Degree Programs

James Cook University

RANKED #355 IN THE TOP 500 UNIVERSITIES IN THE WORLD BY THE TIMES HIGHER EDUCATION*

James Cook University (JCU) combines excellence in teaching and research with a unique tropical setting on the coast of northern Queensland. It is considered one of Queensland’s strongest universities and is Australia’s leading tropical university.

Over 16,000 students including 4,000 international students from 100+ nationalities currently study with JCU.

Location

JCU's main campuses are located in the tropical northern Queensland cities of Townsville and Cairns. Having two World Heritage environments – the Great Barrier Reef and the rainforests of the Wet Tropics – on the doorstep is a bonus for students. Both of these specialist environments provide living laboratories for many JCU courses. Along with the attractions of both cities, there are plenty of interesting regions to explore from either Cairns or Townsville, including the cooler Atherton Tablelands with its ancient crater lakes and picturesque small towns, many national parks, the Whitsunday Islands, Mission Beach, Port Douglas resort area, the wild and rugged Cape York Peninsula, or experience the Australian outback with inland heritage towns such as Charters Towers.

A word from our alumni
"I loved the location of James Cook Uni.: a short bike ride from the beach, an even shorter walk to the rainforest, and a short bus ride to a very interesting city (Cairns)."
