Insurance and Heath Care

Insurance

Overseas health insurance is included in your program fees. You will need to apply for a full medical policy as part of this travel program to cover your basic health needs as well as any emergency situations that may arise. GlobaLinks Learning Abroad will advise you of the recommended policy during the pre-trip phase of the program. You will be required to also purchase the International Student Identity Card (ISIC) to compliment the recommended health and emergency coverage. This card offers extra emergency evacuation coverage for travel both in and out of Fiji.

We highly recommend that you consult with your own insurance or your parent’s insurance company regarding your overseas experience to ensure you will have adequate coverage. You may also investigate additional insurance for potential lost baggage or unforeseen trip cancellation, as these are not provided as part of your program fees.

Health Care

Fiji carefully guards itself against human, animal, and vegetable pests and diseases. It is free from malaria, yellow fever, and many other diseases endemic in tropical countries. Fiji has an effective, western-style medical system. Hospitals are located in the major centres and there are health centers in rural areas. The public hospital and centers are extremely cheap. The University has a health center with qualified nurses available on a full-time basis. Qualified doctors service the Center on a part-time basis from 8:30am-10:30am and 4:30pm-6:30pm. The medical care and medication at the USP Health Centre are free (once you have paid student health fees).
