| Exclusively for students studying in Australia with AustraLearn, you can enroll for the new Global Identity subject EdPA 3103 (Connecting Your International Experience to Your Future) offered by the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. The Course will help you articulate the value of your experience to future employers, demonstrate your intercultural development and skills, and understand intercultural interactions. This course is offered on-line with a series of reading and writing assignments that draw on your experiences and interactions abroad. You get out of the course what you put into it—the more thoughtful you are about the assignments, the more you are able to use what you have written later in your portfolio. Frequently Asked Questions Am I Required to Take this Course? This course is optional, but strongly suggested. Do I Need to Buy a Book? All readings for the course are online through University of Minnesota’s E-Reserve System. You will be given an access code to log in and use these resources. There is no additional cost for the readings. Due to limited internet access at some program sites, we strongly recommend that you print the readings prior to departure and take them with you. Can I recieve credit for this course? Yes! This course is offered for one credit from the University of Minnesota- Twin cities. You will need to check with your home institution for credit approval and transfer options. How Much Does the Course Cost? The cost of the course is $450. Who is My Instructor? An instructor from Educational Policy and Administration teaches the course. This instructor is specially trained in intercultural learning and is familiar with your experience as a study abroad student. When will I hear from My Instructor? Your instructor will contact you via email approximately two weeks prior to your program start date. What if I Am Not Contacted by an Instructor? If you are not contacted by your instructor by three days prior to the program start date, email Danielle Gentry at Globalinks Learning Abroad immediately. ( dgentry@globalinksabroad.org) How do I Register for the Course? Fill out the application form and mail or fax it to Danielle Gentry at the GlobaLinks Learning Abroad office. Forms are available via your My Learn Account - or you can contact your coordinator or Danielle Gentry to receive one. How do I cancel the course? You must send your request in writing to dgentry@globalinksabroad.org in order to cancel the course prior to the start of your program. All other cancellations procedures follow the policy of the University of Minnesota procedures. Can I receive a refund if I cancel? You may request a refund through the GlobaLinks Learning abroad office by e-mailing dgentry@globalinksabroad.org. Refunds will be given for requests made more than 30 days prior to the start of the course. (The course begins 2 weeks prior to the departure date for your program). Refunds are not available once the course has begun. Can I Take the Course for A-F grade? A-F grading is not an option for the course. Some non-University of Minnesota students have informed us that they cannot receive credit for courses taken S/N (pass/fail), but we encourage you to consider enrolling even if you don't receive academic credit. The content of the course can help you beyond fulfilling academic requirements, and you can state at your job interviews, on cover letters, and on grad school applications that you chose to make the extra effort to enrich your experience abroad and integrate it into your future goals. |
