Masters and Ph.D. Programs by distance for Canadian College Faculty Griffith University, Australia Griffith International Postgraduate Research Scholarship – Canada Due to the long-standing relationships between Griffith and many Canadian Colleges, Griffith has set up a special International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (GIPRS) available exclusively to permanent members of the academic staff in the participating colleges. The GIPRS provides Program tuition fees for each semester of the program for up to four years in the case of a doctoral candidate, and up to two years in the case of a research masters candidate. Tuition fees range between $15,000 and $20,000 per year. The academic year has two semesters from January to June and July to December and students are enrolled for the entire calendar year. An extension of up to two semesters for a doctoral candidate may be granted where the University is satisfied that the reason for the requested extension is beyond the candidate's control and related to the research, rather than personal reasons. There will be two scholarships on offer each year. Scheme Objective The purpose of the GIPRS scheme is to attract top quality overseas research higher degree students to areas of research strength and to support Griffith University's research effort. The program offers the opportunity for research higher degree students to obtain a postgraduate research qualification and to gain experience with leading researchers. There will be two scholarships on offer every year. Eligibility Eligible applicants are staff of Canadian Colleges who satisfy the conditions of entry for a research higher degree program at Griffith University. Applicants will be required to have a previous qualification from a recognized tertiary institution at bachelors or masters level which incorporates a significant research component, or a qualification deemed by the Dean, Graduate Studies to be of a standard required for entry to a research higher degree. Applicants will not be eligible if they hold: • a PhD degree deemed the equivalent of an Australian PhD degree; or • an Australian-equivalent research Masters degree if applying for a GIPRS to undertake a Masters program. GIPRS recipients will spend some time during their candidature at Griffith University and may be enrolled on a full-time or part-time basis. There is no specific attendance requirement for non-residents. This is arranged on a case-by-case basis for each candidature at the application for admission stage. A minimum period that the student will be required to spend at Griffith University (this may be in the form of a program of visits to campus to work with the Griffith University supervisor) will be approved. Selection Process Successful applicants will be selected by Griffith University on the recommendation of the Canadian Colleges. Selection criteria will include academic merit, publications, and research experience. Benefits The GIPRS provides: Program tuition fees for each semester of the program for up to four years in the case of a doctoral candidate, and up to two years in the case of a research masters candidate.
