Attractions in Newcastle

Some of the best fun you’ll have is on the beach and in the sea. Try sea kayaking, surfing, swimming, and ferry rides among other maritime adventures. An enriching afternoon can be spent at the Newcastle Regional museum or the excellent Newcastle Region Art Gallery. The Blackbutt Reserve and Wetlands Center let you check out Australia’s wildlife while the wild night life is all about music. Live music is huge in Newcastle and thus easy to find and of good quality.

Australia’s sixth largest city, Newcastle boasts some of Australia’s best beaches. Nobbys, Newcastle, Bar, Dixon Park, Merewether and Stockton Beaches are all within 5 km of the city center. All six beaches are patrolled and offer your family a safe place to swim and relax. Alternatively you can enjoy the protection of our ocean baths.

Newcastle’s spectacular coastline and pristine beaches have been celebrated with the creation of the Bathers Way, a five kilometer coastal walk that starts at Nobbys and finishes at Merewether Beach. Experiencing the remarkable Bathers Way should be a “must” during any visit to Newcastle.

Newcastle is built around a large working harbor, the entrance to which is guarded by Nobbys Lighthouse and Breakwater. The adjacent foreshore area is the perfect place to while away the hours watching the busy harbor traffic while enjoying a drink or meal in one of the harborside cafes, bars or restaurants.

Large expanses of grassy parklands on the harbor’s edge are perfect for a relaxing family picnic. Mingle with the hundreds of Novocastrians who flock to the foreshore each weekend for recreational activities such as kite flying, rollerblading, jogging or bike riding.

If you think just because the suns gone down there's nothing to do, you’re really in the dark. Home to some of the finest entertainment venues on Australia’s east coast, you can catch the very best of live performers from around the country and overseas.

Newcastle offers something for everyone, whether you want to dance to the beats of some of Australia’s best DJ’s, enjoy your favorite food or drink, or find a place where you can simply relax with family and friends.
