| The ideal city for cycling and walking, Melbourne winters can take a toll on pedestrians. The extensive public transportation system, however, provides plenty of alternatives. A tram ride gets you to almost every part of the city and is the easiest way to get around. Buses, trains, and taxi’s get you to further out destinations and inter city stops not serviced by the tram. A great way to get to know the city for less than a penny is the Free City-Circle Tram that loops around Melbourne’s downtown. Ferries are available to and from Williamstown and to and from Tasmania, while the Melbourne River Cruises are more for fun than for getting place to place. As a large city, major airlines like Qantas and Virgin Blue serve Melbourne to the greater Australia and abroad. |
