OverviewIn association with Macquarie University (MQ), currently ranked in the top 200 Universities in the world ( The Times Higher Education Supplement, UK – 2008), International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS) offers study abroad programs specializing in Business, Hospitality Management, Tourism, Event Management, Sport Management, Retail Services Management and Property Services Management.
The MQ study Abroad Program at ICMS offers:

 While studying at International College of Management, Sydney, you can maximize your study abroad experience by enrolling in the new Global Identity subject (EdPA 3103 Connecting Your International Experience to Your Future). The course will help you articulate the value of your experience to future employers, demonstrate your intercultural development and skills, and understand intercultural interactions.
This one-credit, online course is offered by the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities exclusively for students studying in Australia with AustraLearn. To the north, there are views of the Pacific Ocean stretching to the New South Wales Central Coast. Southwards, the College has sweeping views of Sydney Harbor, which many consider to be the most beautiful in the world.
The campus is a five-minute walk to Manly Beach and shopping precinct with its cafes, restaurants, and shopping. ICMS is also close enough to downtown Sydney – 15 minutes by fast ferry – for visits to art galleries, museums, the historic Rocks area, the best city shops, and even the Sydney Opera House and Harbor Bridge. Extracurricular ActivitiesAt ICMS, we don’t expect you to spend your entire semester with your head buried in a book! The College’s rich social and sporting life is there to be enjoyed. Activities include basketball, volleyball, tennis, swimming, and soccer.
You can also take advantage of weekend trips to the snow fields, Central Coast, and Blue Mountains. For an adrenalin rush, you can even try indoor rock climbing, sky diving, white water rafting, sailing, fishing, surfing, scuba diving, and horse riding – to name a few.
The Student Club at ICMS holds themed events on campus often. These events include talent shows, karaoke, Asian food festivals, and Brazilian Carnival nights. For the more classically minded, there are opportunities to attend concerts and plays in Sydney theatres, open-air venues, and even the Sydney Opera House.Academic HighlightsICMS is highly regarded by industry professionals and has won many awards in the last decade. University ServicesICMS boasts an extensive library, quiet study areas, syndicate rooms ideal for group tutorial-type activity and an academic support center. There is also a grand ballroom with a 250-person seating capacity, a formal dining room with seating for 200, a courtyard cafe and student common room.
There are fully equipped theory classrooms and computer laboratories with 24-hour email and Internet access. Students can also take advantage of a wireless network with access to the Internet and online classrooms.HousingStudy Abroad students at ICMS have on-campus and off-campus accommodation options. On-campus rooms are equipped with desk/study facilities, heating and a telephone with voicemail, and have all linen provided. Each floor is equipped with common bathrooms and toilets, and a kitchenette you can use to make a quick snack. The campus has wireless internet access throughout. Off-campus accommodation options includes homestay (limited) and apartment living.OrientationICMS has an extensive social, sporting and cultural activity schedule. ICMS has a dedicated Student Affairs Manager to coordinate all college activities.
Study Abroad students also have a one-week intensive orientation program when they first arrive at ICMS. This program includes: surf safety, team building, tours of Manly and Sydney, program briefings, welcome function, Aussie party with Australian native animals show and much more.

The program includes one day of pre-arranged volunteering with the local community. You'll interact directly with locals while giving back to and sharing your own culture with the community that first welcomes you to Australia. Plus, you can continue your volunteer efforts later in the semester by signing up for AustraLearn's Conservation Volunteer Weekend.

Program Fees include tuition for 3 to 4 subjects, university administrative fees, membership in the student union (where applicable), overseas health coverage, ISIC Premium (International Student Identity Card), 25% Lonely Planet Book discount, also included is our renowned 6-day Bridging Cultures Program in Tropical Cairns, Australia. Fees include all pre-trip services such as: orientation materials, visa-processing service (excluding the visa fee), housing placements, personal advising, subject selections, liaise with your home university, credit transfer assistance, and financial aid services. As a study abroad student, you will be required to enroll as a full time student. Your semester is equivalent to 12-16 U.S. credits. Additional tuition and/or fees may apply in some subject areas not limited to the following: science, engineering, fine arts, and journalism. Students who undertake subjects where the university requires additional fees will be billed by the host university. Several universities have included the Sports and Rec. membership. Activities are usually extra. The Housing Fees are approximates and are in addition to the Program Fees. Housing fees listed include the least expensive option available for single accommodation in flats, houses and/or dormitories. Entry RequirementsApplicants must have the required GPA and have completed at least the equivalent of one year of full-time study at the university/college level.
Students with a lower GPA than the requirement may be considered on a case by case basis. Please contact our office for more information.

Study-Internship ProgramThe internship component available at ICMS is a unique 3 week opportunity to experience a variety of hospitality settings. Eligible students will have experience in the hospitality industry already as these placements are meant to provide exposure to a multitude of settings for those individuals who have already learned the basics of the industry.
Participants will rotate through three different departments in a Sydney-area hotel. Participants will spend one week each shadowing the manager and various hotel positions. BIO:
Rebecca manages study abroad admissions and participant pre-trip services for students attending International College of Management Sydney (ICMS) University of Tasmania, Edith Cowan University, Murdoch University, Bond University, and University of Newcastle.
Rebecca graduated with a BA in International Relations and Spanish from St. Cloud State University, Minnesota in 2006. She studied abroad for a semester at La Universidad de Concepcion in Chile and was a participant in a short-term study abroad program to China. She has also traveled to Belgium and the Canary Islands. |
