Overview

Founded in 1878, Lincoln University’s strong commitment to international education has led to the development of high quality, internationally recognized study options at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. All undergraduate offerings are open to Study Abroad students.

The University enjoys a reputation for innovation and excellence in teaching and research, and has a commitment to the innovative use of technology. The University is world renowned in areas related to land and natural resource management, and is noted for its industry-relevant commerce degrees and programmes.

Well-known as a friendly and supportive place for study, Lincoln University’s multicultural campus is home to approximately 3500 students from 69 different countries. A third of all students are from countries other than New Zealand.

Students come first at Lincoln University. Lecturers have an ‘open door’ policy and are always on hand to discuss projects and essays or to clarify a lecture topic.

Location

Lincoln University’s spacious 58 hectare campus, set in a safe and park-like environment, provides the benefits of both city and rural lifestyles. Just 20 - 30 minutes by car or bus from the South Island’s largest city, the University offers the perfect environment for undisturbed study, while close to all that Christchurch has to offer.

Extracurricular Activities

Students can enjoy a host of social and sporting activities both on-campus and off. The University is located within easy distance of many of the scenic and sporting attractions of the South Island, including skiing, hiking, rafting, surfing and a range of other activities.

Nearby, Christchurch offers urban attractions such as pubs, clubs, music, movies, theatre, the arts, cafes, restaurants and a range of sporting activities and facilities.

On–campus, there is a golf driving range, tennis courts and a superb sports and recreation centre, complete with fitness studio, squash courts and an outdoor fitness track. Lincoln University Students’ Association (LUSA) offers a full programme of activities throughout the academic year.

Academic Highlights

Lincoln University excels in areas such as agriculture and agricultural science, bio-protection technologies, horticulture, viticulture and oenology, environmental management, and landscape architecture.

The University also enjoys a reputation for its industry-relevant courses, including hotel and tourism management, food studies, logistics, valuation and property management, and software and information technology.

Students can choose from an extensive range of programmes in a variety of disciplines.
Most of these studies involve theory, case studies, field trips, teamwork, and practical application of the learned theory. The programs take an interdisciplinary approach, meaning that many of the areas of study overlap and work together, allowing students to gain a broader understanding of their field of specialization
