Rockhampton has a population of 60,000 and is located on the east coast of Australia, on the Tropic of Capricorn, 633 kilometers north of Brisbane. You can travel to Rockhampton from Brisbane by either of the following:
- 1 hour by plane
- 7 hours by train or car
- 13 hours by bus
Rockhampton is just a 30-minute drive to the Capricorn Coast and Yeppoon beaches. Spectacular Great Keppel Island on the Great Barrier Reef is a 30-minute cruise from Roslyn Bay Marina. West of Rockhampton lie significant parts of Australia's heritage such as outback cattle and sheep stations, vast open-cut and underground coal mines and gem fields and national parks including Carnarvon National Park, famous for its ancient Aboriginal rock art. The tropical climate makes Rockhampton and its surrounding area ideal for outdoor pursuits such as bushwalking, camping, horse riding, swimming, scuba diving, wind surfing, sailing, and snorkeling.

Weekends find students learning to scuba dive, visiting the Dreamtime Aboriginal Cultural Center, adventure caving, overnight horseback riding, spending the night under the stars, or just lazing by the beach. An International Student Support Coordinator is available to provide personal assistance throughout the stay. Each new student will be required to attend an interview with the coordinator to assist with academic progression.
The University caters for the needs of students with on-campus facilities including several styles of food outlets, an ATM machine, post office, bookstore, cafeteria, hairdressing salon, library, computer labs, and fitness center.HousingCapricornia College offers on-campus accommodation in a safe, supportive, and friendly environment. The College houses up to 320 male and female students in single rooms, with shared facilities and all meals provided. Benefits of living at the College include academic support services, access to sporting facilities, formal and casual functions/dinners, and recreational and social outings.
If desired, assistance will be given to help students find off-campus rental accommodation close to the University though transportation will need to be considered. To minimize costs, fully furnished rental accommodation would be preferable but you will need to consider added costs such as linen, crockery and cutlery, or a TV. We can also assist to find homestay accommodation for students wishing to spend time with an Australian family.OrientationStudents are met by our reception service and transported to their accommodation. A full range of academic and welfare support services is available to international students through CQU Student Services.
A special orientation program for all international students is conducted at the beginning of each semester. During this time, students are provided with information about living in Australia to help make the transition as easy as possible. Students are also taken on a tour of the local area. As a study abroad student, you will be required to enroll as a full time student. Your semester is equivalent to 12-16 U.S. credits. Students who undertake subjects where the university requires additional fees will be billed by the host university. Several universities have included the Sports and Rec. membership. Free ExcursionEnjoy a fun holiday weekend in the Whitsunday Islands, complimentary with your AustraLearn study abroad program at CQUniversity. Spend 3 days and 2 nights on board a sailing vessel cruising the area and snorkelling through the famous waters of the Whitsunday Islands. All food and bedding included on the boat and scuba diving equipment can be rented. This trip is a great addition to the CQUniversity experience! You will sign up directly on campus!
