Study abroad students have access to outstanding facilities, world class teaching staff, and a dynamic campus life at ANU.
The Australian National Internships Program (ANIP) is a hands-on opportunity for a student to go into a workplace and undertake a research project for significant academic credit. As part of the real world experience students have the opportunity to work in an office environment, learn to prioritize tasks and deadlines for completion of tasks and learn to express themselves concisely ,and provide a succinct understanding of a complex topic. An internship is not just work experience, or unpaid help in an office. The major focus is the completion of the Research Report. Through ANIP, students from any discipline can be placed with the Australian Federal Parliament, the Australian Public Service, the Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly or Public Service, or with non-government organizations (including lobby groups).

Around the University
The ANU campus sits on 145 hectares of beautiful maintained parkland in the heart of Canberra. With the city only 5 minutes away, it is an easy walk to the mall, shops, cafes, restaurants, and clubs and close to many of Australia’s best sporting, recreational and cultural activities. Learn more about Canberra> Internship DetailsThe Australian National Internship Program (ANIP) is open to students of ALL majors and disciplines. All placements are in high-profile organizations such as embassies, the Parliament, government departments, and non-governmental agencies. The program is considered an academic course for credit with assignments required.
The internship placement and associated coursework is the equivalent of three subjects at the ANU. Students take one additional subject of their choice to make a full academic course load. Students will intern a minimum of two days/week in the placement location. Assessment includes an 8,000-word research report and a 40-minute oral presentation.
Students work in conjuction with their supervisor at the workplace and the director of the ANIP program to find a suitable topic. Students must also attend a set of seminars featuring political and government officials, and write a short report on each.
Additional opportunities associated with the ANIP include a reception for all ANIP students at the Parliament House hosted by the Speaker or President of the House, a reception hosted by the Australian Governor General, and if the Prime Minister is available, students may be able to meet him. Participants are encouraged to network with politicians, governmental leaders, and ambassadors and speak to them about their experience. ANU can help facilitate these interactions.
The application deadline for participating in the ANIP is earlier than the standard GlobaLinks Learning Abroad application deadline. Click on "Dates" in the left hand menu bar for specific deadline dates. Academic HighlightsANU is comprised of seven Colleges focused around its teaching and research areas.
