Environmental Internships Available for Your Students: Are your students looking for valuable internship experience to help boost their resumes? These internships provide valuable professional training, while living in a foreign country allows students to improve on skills such as problem solving, independence, and critical thinking. AustraLearn offers Environmental Internships for credit and gives 24/7 on-site support including a group orientation upon arrival in country. We have great internships in Australia and New Zealand, as well as opportunities in China and Hong Kong. We have had over 200 internship locations in the past and we continue to add new placements. We custom build internships to meet interns’ needs, and bring our experience ensure a great internship experience. We hand pick each internship organization to ensure that students are gaining maximum professional development and are not subject to endless menial tasks like many domestic internships. Application Deadlines Coming Up Quickly: Internships starting May 28 (lasting 10 weeks) - Application deadline February 1 Internships starting June 25 (lasting 6 or 10 weeks) - Application deadline March 1 Most internships include our our group Bridging Cultures Program to help students adjust to their new internship country. We also offer a number of activities throughout the internship to help students discover themselves, their profession, their new culture, their new friends, and their academics. Available Environmental Management, Biology, Conservation and Marine Biology Related Internships Internships are available in every field and you will find a brief description of several of our previous visual arts internships in Australia and New Zealand and in China and Hong Kong below. This is not a full list, rather just a few examples. You can view a complete list at our website: Wellington City Council Open Space – Wellington, New Zealand This placement is with the open space department of the Wellington city government. The intern will assist with inventory assessment of key indigenous vegetation types within the city. This will involve ecological assessments, field work and recommendations. CQUniversity School of Medical and Applied Science - Wombat Ecology Internship The intern’s duties will be an important component of a pilot baseline study to examine current feed preferences in captive wombats at the Rockhampton Zoo. This baseline project will be an important part of a larger project investigating the optimum diet, dietary preferences, and foraging strategies of captive Southern hairy –nosed wombats (Lasiorhinus latrifrons) being conducted at the Wombat Research Centre at the Rockhampton Zoo, with the potential for application to threatened wild populations of a closely related wombat species. It is expected the results of the intern’s work and of the baseline project will form part of a scientific paper to be written up and published at a later date. National Intstitute of Water and Aquatic Research (NIWA) - Wellington, New Zealand NIWA is a government owned research and consultancy company, with a global reputation as experts in water and atmospheric research. Their mission is to conduct leading environmental science to enable the sustainable management of natural resources for New Zealand and the planet. The Mahanga Bay Aquaculture Research Facility undertakes research and consultancy on cultivation techniques and technologies for a range of coolwater marine species. The internship will entail maintenance of cultures as required, including, but not limited to abalone, butterfish, grouper and sea cucumbers.
