Cost of Living in Australia

The cost of living in Australia is similar to that of the U.S. or Canada. It varies according to the location of the host university, the style of accommodation choosen and your lifestyle. In general, living costs are higher in urban centers and lower in regional areas. Not surprisingly, the Australia Bureau of Statistics has found that households in capital cities spend considerably more, on average, on housing, food, clothing, and recreation than those in regional areas.

It is estimated that a student will need only about USD $6,500 a year, in addition to tuition and fees, to cover living expenses such as accommodation, food, transportation, textbooks, and entertainment. Extensive travel around Australia/region also adds up and students should plan additional costs associated with travel and excursions.
