In the Spotlight: Leiden University

In 2010, Leiden University is commemorating the 435th anniversary of its foundation. The celebration of this memorable achievement did commence with the festive Foundation Day ceremony on 8 February. From this date on, a range of activities take place, culminating in the Lustrum Week from 12 to 18 June.

CONTEST: 'Science and the Outside World'

To reveal how reason and emotion come together in Leiden’s leading scientific research, a number of the University’s research groups will participate in the ‘Science and the Outside World’ contest.

In this contest scholars will present the subject of their research in a spectacular and active way, so that it is comprehensible for everybody. They get up from behind their desks or research benches to do something outside the University walls: during the Lustrum Week (12 to 18 June) they will explain to society exactly what it is that they do. Scientific research will be promoted actively to everday people.
