| Thanks to the hard work of all the AustraLearn students who participated in a conservation volunteer project in Australia or New Zealand, some substantial strides towards a better environment were made in the last year. Conservation activities varied from planting of trees, shrubs and grasses, mulching and watering, walking track maintenance, habitat regeneration, propagation, walking track construction, penguin surveys, and weed removal. The cumulative environmental outcomes achieved in 2006 by AustraLearn students in Australia alone: - 4,435 trees, shrubs and grasses planted
- 30,205 square meters of weeds removed
- 5,000 meters of walking track cleared of debris
- 200 kilometers of walking track constructed
- 792 kilometers of walking track repaired
- 630 plants propagated
All in all, it adds up to 826 days of volunteering and AUD$132,160 in kind labor based on Australian Commonwealth Government standards for conservation based labor. (All statistics provided by CVA.)
